When they searched his car and home, they found Becky's blood on items inside, as well as tools and plastic sheeting matching those missing from the Watts household. What followed was every family's nightmare. Becky had been attacked in her own bedroom, and her body was later found dismembered and hidden in suitcases. Investigators discovered that the motive was rooted in a twisted obsession — Matthews had planned to kidnap a teenage girl for his own disturbing fantasy, and Becky happened to be home that day. When contronted, he contessed, and both he and Hoare were arrested. Matthews was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 33 years, and Hoare was convicted of manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
