Index funds: these invest in every company in an entire stock market 2. Mutual funds: these are groups of shares which are themed. Some have high charges, but many have low charges which compete against index funds. Look for a fund with a low charge and a theme that appeals to you. 3. Target Date funds: these target a date 10, 15, 20, 30 or even 40 years in the future. In the early years they invest in a wide range of things so with higher risk, but as the target date approaches they swap into increasingly safer options to protect your investments.
