mind you us black fans called her blackiana because of her music and the way she sang ! never because of mannerisms or the way she spoke,, patty labelle said the same thing

when her non-black fans crave the resurrection of “blackiana” it always rubs me the wrong way.

Yes. She was deeply unwell. I still think she’s struggling still. But she was clearly so sad in that era. She would cry on stage all the time.

this was ari in 2020, shamed to the point where “ariana fat” was trending after the grammys. yall will never be satisfied and she’s spoken about how depressed she was during her “blackiana” era and drinking on her antidepressants. give it a break people

and maybe it’s possible when everyone started hating on her for the blackiana era (understandable but she did get a lot of hate for it) she might’ve been like “they’re right i need to make a change” and changed… maybe she knows it was wrong so she changed her ways🤷🏻♀️

... Why would a time consisting of an Italian woman cosplaying an African American one be her most authentic era?

I think it was a trauma response. She tried to literally escape herself at some point between 2017-2019. She seems to mimic those around her unintentionally, and during that era of her life she was with victoria monet constantly. If you watch her thank u next interview with zach sang her and victoria sound identical it’s crazy. It’s easier to function as a character or persona when you are struggling so much mentally because for even just 5 minutes you don’t have to be yourself anymore.

People are so parasocial with her it’s crazy. She has said repeatedly that her sweetener/thank u next eras were the worst for her mentally and yet everyone wants her to go back💔

The concept of ppl wanting a version of Ariana where she was not herself because of her mental issues and low self esteem and trauma

And I dont know, I feel like people are supposed to grow and change as they grow up. I know who I was 5, 6 years ago in a lot of ways isn’t the same person I am now. Change is supposed to happen!

I agree with you saying blackiana was a performance, but I feel like her most authentic self was around the time she was on the voice. I do slightly feel like she has “glindified” her personality slightly. But I will say this is still way more authentic then “blackiana” ever was

So many people might not know this or wasn’t old enough to experience this but Pink was forced to put up a hip hop/r&b persona by her record label. They use Black women and their aesthetic to sell. I am not blaming Ariana or Pink neither am I excusing their behavior.

there’s been such a weird obsession online recently with calling out ppl for being performative—“I can tell it’s not authentic” no you can’t 😭 people change. the way she’s being picked apart and mocked is so sad, she was clearly so unhappy in what everyone says was her prime.

you got it, people don't care about mental health like you think they do. once it starts to impact their lives and they have to do any emotional labor, they label you the problem

she is more like the Ariana I saw as a child. I thought her 7 rings/thank u next era was cringy. trying too hard to be someone she wasn’t. She seems like a weird quirky theatre girl! I love her vocals and her personality.

Mac had passed, her concert was attacked, she was struggling with pills and I believe an ED at the time. Like she’s been open about how that time of her life was some of the hardest things she’s been through
