@ceapixie: Even if it seems small, doing some sort of stretch before getting in the water to surf is a must! I normally end up doing this at the shoreline. I love waiting until then because It’s a chance to observe the beach and the water! I like to pick a landmark on shore so I make sure I don’t drift far away. You can also notice the best place to paddle out and spots to avoid. Observing nature gives me a humbling sense of peace and wonder. I love paddling out with this mindset. I also use it as a chance to get used to being in the wetsuit again. They are uniquely restrictive and moving in them feels different. Stretching is the perfect time to get used to it! Stretching and mediation go hand in hand, it’s a moment to be more aware of what you’re presently feeling! Stretching helps improve the mind body connection and is a beautiful pause to check in with ourselves. When I take the time to do my warm up, I surf much better, and feel better too.
