@dr.yousufzafar: There’s a good reason why oncologist prefer the standard, evidence based treatment for cancer over alternative therapies that don’t have any good evidence backing them. Anecdotal evidence of one case where there was benefit is not sufficient to change the standard of cancer care. We need strong evidence, and that evidence takes time. ##cancer##cancertok##chemo##chemotherapy##oncology
Water, diet, starve the cancer out, which is absolutely ridiculous. And people try this and die.

I get it, as a 37 year cancer survivor. chemo is not a fun thing to go through. but the truth is, it is the best chance to beat the cancer, and valuable time is lost trying alternative which will not likely work, and then it is too late. I see this all the time in the Hodgkins community. we are around this long because we went through what was prove and worked.

I will never not be guided by my oncologist. So many snake-oil salesman's prey on desperate people for financial gain.

I actually didn’t have many side effects from chemo or radiation. I’ve had to stop immunotherapy due to it effecting my lungs, but I feel my treatment is saving me. Is it rough? Yes. But I imagine dying from lung cancer isn’t better.

I was recommended chemo on top of my radiation and surgery and we flat out ask the chemo doctor the benefits vs long term side effects and they gave it 5-10% benefit for my cancer type with 100 percent chance of side effects… in the end I did surgery and radiation and decided to opt out of chemotherapy….. it didn’t feel right to me after my interview with the doctor….. I know plenty of people have had success with it, that just happened to be my discussion having squamous cell carcinoma.

Personally I have never even considered doing something other than what my oncologist suggests, but this is a great explanation for people who may be considering alternative options.

My oncologist was so honest from MD Anderson and said that a lot of people try these therapies and they work for a little bit and then end up coming to him with full blown Mets. 😭

The story surrounding chemo is so damn scary that people think it’s the worse thing to happen. As a patient, I stress that chemo works! I have counseled other patients that it isn’t that bad. Doctors need to do a better job reassuring new patients. Assure them it isn’t like the movies. That the new treatments to address side effects make it tolerable.

Just guessing that it's because chemo is so dangerous and often doesn't yield positive results.

As someone who just finished chemo and is starting radiation, the reason I searched for alternatives is bc drs don’t listen. I’ve had my concerns brushed of repeatedly. Onc only concern has been getting rid of the cancer which I understand. But there’s been zero concern about quality of life after or ways to prevent side effects. Even something as simple as cold capping was brushed off as not important bc it’s “just hair”. It’s infuriating.

I vote for science over “this could help and won’t be as toxic” any day of the week!! Your medical team is monitoring for side effects and will help you get through it as safely as possible!

because most laymen have a conception that chemo is chemical and chemical is always toxic. and the evil part about marketing is always emphasizing that nature is good and so all sorts of gardens, forest plants and stuff are finding their way to the belief of cure with hope. you will be surprised that many will just believe in a little black pills miracle then a hospital medicine.

Cancer IS NOT a “one size fits all” so what might work for some might not work for others, I think that’s the approach that should be taken. Find out what will work best with your specific cancer instead of the standard protocol given to everyone with the same cancer.
