The first hints of fall were starting to show along the McKenzie, with the trees slowly trading their summer greens for muted golds and reds. A light rain drifted through the forest, leaving tiny drops on the leaves and darkening the moss-covered rocks along the riverbank. And then there was the water - so impossibly blue it almost looked unreal, rushing through the forest beneath a soft gray sky. Everything felt slower here. Rain falling gently through the trees, leaves moving with the breeze, and the river carrying everything downstream without ever stopping. The kind of scene where you can stand there for a while and forget about everything waiting for you somewhere else. Maybe that’s what I love most about places like this. Lately, I’ve struggled with slowing down. My mind has felt loud and restless, always somewhere ahead of me, always trying to figure out what comes next. Even when everything around me is quiet, it can be hard to find that same quiet inside. But standing here, listening to the rain and watching the river move through the forest, I was reminded that I don’t have to carry everything with me. Some things are meant to be left behind. Some things are meant to simply flow past us, like the water moving downstream. We don’t have to hold onto every thought, every worry, every moment that has already passed. Sometimes healing is just learning to breathe, slow down, and let life move without trying to control every part of it. Somewhere between the falling leaves and the flowing water, I am trying to remember that it’s okay to slow down. It’s okay if peace doesn’t come all at once. It’s okay to leave some things behind and keep moving forward, one moment at a time. Sometimes you just need to get back to the river, breathe a little deeper, and remember that life can still be beautiful. Something I am working on myself.🌲🍂
