actually the reason that people are not allowed to get into the water is because to protect the shark not to protect the people

Black Tip Reef Sharks. They won’t hurt people, but you can’t swim in this area of Phi Phi Island because they are working on building the eco system back. After the movie The Beach came out, this area was destroyed. Maya Bay is also only open to visitors certain months of the year, then it’s closed to it can continue to heal itself.

Swimming was once allowed at Maya Bay but is no longer. After Covid and the lake of tourism/ tourist/ travel sharks and sea life came back and they would like to keep it that way
