@ssgbooktok: The banning of traditional clothing has been a cornerstone of colonialism and maintains itself in the present day. British colonial practices in banning clothing can partly be traced back to the Irish Mantle. @Princeton University Press Making Empire by Jane Ohlmeyer #BookTok #ireland #india #pakistan #historytok
Ireland was the training ground for colonialism, it’s why we’re still one of the least forested country in Europe as all of our forests were cut down for English ships

I refuse to support anyone telling women they can’t wear religious or cultural clothing. I’m Irish and I’ll die before I tell a woman not to wear a hijab 🥰

As an Irish Man, I absolutely LOVE that other cultures from around the world are taking note to Irish history. It seems since the film ‘Sinners’ came out, there has been a lot more people reading up about it

There’s so much of our culture that has been long lost because of British colonialism. I didn’t see the point of learning Irish in school (no one speaks it/it takes time away from subjects I need to get into 3rd level education), now I’m determined to speak it more, we’ve lost so much, we cannot lose our language too! Thank you for talking about this! Go raibh mile maith agat mo chara ❤️

Just FYI, the British Empire wasn’t just English.. it was British. Scots, Welsh and even Irish were over represented in the building of the empire.

Amazing information, thank you. It's amazing how little we knew about the mechanics of colonialism until recently and how the colonialists actually unite so many people from all different backgrounds around the world by inflicting the same injustices on us
