Romans 1:20 I believe one of the reasons we struggle to hear God isn’t necessarily because He isn’t speaking, it’s because we’re surrounded by so much noise that we’ve forgotten what stillness feels like. Constant stimulation. Constant notifications. Constant consumption. We are being discipled by algorithms designed to keep us addicted to busyness, and on a biological level, that constant input can keep our nervous systems in a heightened state of stress and dysregulation. When you’re constantly in fight-or-flight, chronically stressed, or mentally overstimulated, it becomes incredibly difficult to discern the quiet voice of God. And I think the divine design of our bodies is one of the most beautiful reminders of God’s love for us. When we slow down, breathe, walk, rest, and become present, our nervous system can shift toward the parasympathetic state, the state associated with rest, restoration, digestion, and recovery. Our internal systems begin working in greater harmony, and over time, that internal harmony can express itself outwardly through greater resilience, better recovery, healthier skin, improved metabolic health, and a greater capacity to create, build, and live fully. There is something profoundly spiritual about movement. Can you imagine what three hours of walking quietly, with nothing but the sound of ducks quacking, your feet on the pavement, your own breath, and occasional conversations with God could do to your heart over time? Your mind? Your entire life?
