THIS HAPPENED!! Almost 20yrs ago, we had Thanksgiving at my sisters house and my grandpa put the turkey in and BOOM! The backyard was ablaze. My grandpa freaked, my dad freaked, my brother-in-law freaked, my brothers freaked. All of the women inside (me holding my infant niece) freaked/ laughed. My dad nearly knocked my bro-in-law out when the idiot tried to grab the hose. Dad had my brothers grab dirt and all of them started running to smother the fire with dirt before it could drift to the pool. It was soon smothered and everything was alright, but that was the LAST time we tried cooking a turkey like this. That was the driest, most miserable turkey I’ve ever eaten 😂😂

I saw a video a long time ago they said fill up the pot with water, put the turkey inside it, take it out, and wherever the water line hits is how much oil you put into the pot, AFTER you dump the water, and thaw out the turkey a week in advance depending on how big it is.
