@jonjon.jpeg: It would be easy for a city to pull data and identify the most dangerous parts of a neighborhood. That information could go straight to city counselors or Public Works so they can work systematically to make those intersections safer. It does not always have to be expensive. It does not always have to be drastic. I could probably make a short video series on this area alone, but I want to focus on what might be the most dangerous intersection in my neighborhood, where more than seven crashes have happened in the last calendar year. #Urbanism #StreetSafety #CityPlanning #SafeStreets #TacticalUrbanism
I know you don't really do round abouts in the US but that would slow the traffic and lower accidents. It's a shame you don't use them more.

Feel like this should be sent to the city just to establish a record that they know

I personally would prefer a dedicated left turn lane anyways, because left turns are usually the ones that hold up traffic if there isn't a left turn arrow

HEAR HEAR - abundance of signs means bad design & good design is intuitive. I wanna cry at the latter. When that exists bc someone CAN THINK 5 steps ahead & anticipate human logic in space 😭 it’s beautiful!!!

i mean with the amount of crashes that happen here, I didn't think the future people thing was a joke.
The fact that you're right and paint could be such a simple, cheap solution & it's apparently not even been considered is ridiculous!
Not to mention the amount of other possible interventions. Usin some of the width for bike lanes with barriers or planter boxes could be one. Turnin the whole thing into a roundabout could be another. Make a nice big median for pedestrians to cross safer. Hell even a mini roundabout or some kinda vertical or horizontal deflections. Maybe even some light bulb outs to daylight the intersection.

Why provide a dedicated right turn lane over a dedicated left turn lane if there’s no turn on red?

Right turn only lanes also cause last minute unsafe lane changes when it's intuitive that it's a straight or right lane

It looks like there is plenty of space for a roundabout with a slip lane. It would reduce collisions and overall speed.

I swear you need to partner with accident attorneys to help them sue the city to change things.

Here in Fort Wayne we’re starting to phase out right turn only lanes. I’m actually working on restriping a corridor to make dedicated lefts and remove passing blisters!

so, serious question from another angle: how many people work for the city that can make this judgment and affect change? is it one dude in a back office with 80 other responsibilities? is there a team?
