When I was in college, a woman and I were in a debate against 2 men. The men kept complaining to the moderator (also a man) that the women were “interrupting constantly”. When we go to the audience Q&A portion of the debate, someone said they had timed how much each team spoke for. My female partner and I, the ones who kept “interrupting” spoke for 12 minutes total. The men? 42 minutes. Almost 4 times the amount

I work in a male dominated line of work. Like 20% women. The one time there was a 50/50 split in a meeting. All the men stated they felt outnumbered. Its perception! And its sad.

Wasn't there a small study made that men just perceive women talk more while in reality women speak less (the study was from classrooms I think specifically) The answer is just the patriarchy and misogyny

There are also studies that show men vastly overestimate how much women talk. When asked to guess how many minutes women spoke vs men spoke in a meeting, women guessed about correctly for both men and women. Men's guesses were about correct when it came to other men, but for women they guessed much higher numbers than the actual number of minutes women talked.

I heard from a girl on TikTok who was reflecting on this that, maybe women have to talk a bit more bc we are taken less seriously in our jobs or schools so we have to talk more in order to be heard. Which wouldn't happen to a man. and I found that reflection interesting

As a woman working in blue collar, I can confidently say I spoke less than all the men around me, and yet, I "talked too much." Literally didn't even talk to them for anything other than work because they were so insufferble and rude to me for simply existing in their space.
