So when she cites a paper from 1992 (for the old people like me who feel like 1992 wasn’t THAT long ago, we’re talking more than 3 decades), that strikes me as her consciousness of guilt. I know she’s well-read and smart. If she had a more recent paper that supported her arguments, she’d use it. My question is why she clings to these claims rather than change her opinion when presented evidence to the contrary?

she doesn't believe any western sources so you should cite north korea's own media like Rodong News. there are some concerning articles over there (eg. praising a man for choosing to save their leader's portrait over his family in a burning building, praising a miner working to death for his excellent work ethics, etc)

My family was directly harmed by the US government in Korea through the war and its imperialism. I am no US apologist or blind to the wrongs they committed globally. I believe capitalism is destroying us. However to act like North Korea is some paradise and absolve the government from costing many peoples lives is an atrocity and pure propaganda. Both sides can and have committed crimes against their people. We don’t need someone spouting hurtful lies to come in and play white savior for us.

I said she would do this a few videos back and I was right, she is now trying to discredit your education. She has no real argument backed up by real facts so now she has to try discredit everything about you because she cannot discredit your actual words. It’s genuinely insane to me that she thinks she knows more than someone formally educated on the topic who has actually been to the place in question. She is in an echo chamber safe in her California home, never having to be pushed back on or questioned, so she does not know how to handle being wrong.

i think it’s interesting that she constantly writes off ANY testimony of ANY north korean that the DPRK is a dictatorship as “lies” because they’re “being paid off” as if they didn’t DEFECT FROM THE COUNTRY. i can assure you that inside the DPRK these people had no idea that being paid to talk about their experience was even an option. so why did they defect if it’s such a nice place to live? and if it’s such a nice place to live why would they even NEED to escape? surely a nice country would allow their citizens to freely move around the world? like these people obviously escaped for a reason in the first place and i think she’s not really thinking about that. are there NK defectors who have embellished their stories? yes. does that automatically mean that north korea is actually this amazing place and that every negative thing said about it is western propaganda? no. critical thinking and nuance doesn’t exist for madeline
