Come on guys we can’t improve our material conditions at all, we have to save our energy for the revolution that will never arrive because everyone is to hungry and tired from their terrible material conditions to fight

i dont think mamdani is perfect but if donald trump is as smitten as he seems with mamdani and can be convinced to play ball or, at a bare minimum NOT sabotage mamdani, this could turn out to be a very good thing. mamdani is not going to lead the vanguard party and destroy fascism or anything, but he could be more effective than literally any other american politician at actually popularizing socialist policies. i can understand skepticism about this meeting and toning down the palestine rhetoric, but if mamdani can realize his campaign promises this could be a massive PR victory for left wing ideas in the US. literally the most important thing he could accomplish is to cure american liberal brainworms

If he compromises on his values for Trump then I'll agree with you, but until then it looks like he successfully stopped ICE from coming into the city and federal funding being cut, which are the two ways trump could ruin NY. Who gives a shit about "respect" and "politeness", if it gets you concrete wins then do it

Ok, valid point.. what is the pathway for the second type of politician which is PRACTICALLY applicable?

"Respect" is being used very loosely here, as politicians likely have no respect for each other in any scenario..Rather, Mamdani is putting himself in a position to continue being able to do what he needs to for us. There is no situation where change is made over night, as nice as that would be. It's either he makes enemies with the strongest people in the country (more so than he already is) or he forces them into a position where they have to be friendly (like he did with Trump). This way of thinking is very detrimental when it comes to abolishing fascist and trying to skip to the end puts us at the beginning.

Personally, I don’t actually believe he’s a democratic socialist and why do I say that? Because people who are actual democratic socialists don’t need to call themselves that lol they just let their actions speak for it. Bernie didn’t even call himself that lol only time he ever did was when he’d correct someone who called him a socialist and said democratic socialist but he didn’t walk out there saying “I am a democratic socialist” lol

That isn't what's happening with the lack of endorsement. Zohran helped get Chi rejected to his council role. Look to NY DSA members to understand why they want to keep Chi focused on his council seat right now (that they just got him reelected for three weeks ago).

When I saw Trump pat his arm and say, “You can just say it. It’s easier for you” while looking at Mamdani adoringly when asked about calling Trump a fascist I was slack jawed. He’s clearly a genius. *standing ovation*

Big disagree. Him not acting like the caricature the right wing has painted him as and having Trump praise him did more good than if Mamdani went in there just fighting Trump and had Trump come out of the meeting saying he’s going to do his worst to make sure Mamdani fails. Not only does it ruin the messaging that all Republicans were teeing up before the meeting, but it destroys their messaging they planned to use after the meeting.

although I agree with you that the only way to truly fix the system/governments is to reset it, I disagree that Mamdani and people like him can't make a difference.
you could argue that making improvements now may be worse in the long run due to complacency, but it could also change some minds or motivate people to take actual action against the system
