@felix_ved: Anthropic is shifting how agents interact with Model Context Protocol servers using code execution. Instead of pre-loading every tool definition into the context window, this method treats tools like a software standard library that the agent discovers progressively. The architecture works through file system abstraction. An agent lists the available servers directory to find what it needs, then reads specific tool definition files to understand the interface and writes code to call the MCP tools. This is particularly powerful for data-heavy tasks. In the engineering logs, Anthropic showed how an agent can write a script to filter a 10,000-row spreadsheet within the execution environment, returning only the relevant rows to the context window. This shifts the heavy lifting from the LLM reasoning capabilities to deterministic code execution, allowing for joins across multiple data sources and complex aggregations without context bloat. #mcp #anthropic #aiengineering #llm #developer #generativeai #softwareengineer #coding #typescript #python
Anthropic is the Chipotle of AI. I wish they had better software engineers. Their AI/ML teams are clearly clueless.

Everyone keeps talking about this article but how is it actually supposed to be implemented? Are you supposed to create the file system by hand?

Casually missing half of the paper 😭 98% token reduction under highly specific and under optimized mcp server conditions

Interesting, I need something new, I burn through our enterprise copilot’s sonnet 4.5 premium tokens in a week, they only reset us the beginning of the month 😭👍

so what exactly does it save in the context window? the tool descriptions? aren't these negligble in today's 400k token windows?

if people had bothered making well-crafted and properly configurable MCPs, instead of local execution garbage, this would be less of a problem. 👍🏻 Also, the same technique can be done with any API, so what’s the point of MCPs at all if this is how we should use them. 😅

if I want to create a new mcp how does non antropic agent will know to use it in this new modern way?

There are huge tradeoffs in this approach.

don't use MCP, it's not ready as a protocol and it has the wrong abstraction.

I have different mcp profiles I can switch out easily depending on the need. Not sure it’s the best way to do it but works for me
