Ugh. There wasn’t a single female in my first colonoscopy and the last thing I heard was men talking before I went under and I can’t tell you how uncomfortable that moment was.

I was having an invasive procedure once and in pre-op I said “can I please just have at least one woman present the whole time I’m under?” and the doctor said “oh honey, we’re an all woman team.” And I cried. I was so relieved but also so proud of them all.

I didn’t know they did this and it’s in my chart I’m a SA victim, and when they wheeled in for surgery and I saw it was all women I cried w relief.

I had someone surgery for my endometriosis removal (first ever surgery) and told my gyno I habe trauma with SA and didnt want any males operating. when I got into theatre there was one male and he said to me in the kindest voice "im so sorry, i know you requested no males, but im only here to watch your heart rate, I will be no where near your surgery site, im here to help you", it was all females except for him, and he was lovely. I was so lucky

Completed a tough c section today. Scrub tech goes, “it went well because it was an all girls team.” RN’s, CRNA, med students, scrub tech, attending and residents - all women.

I remember I was shocked how many people were in the room. I was not mentally prepared for that. I know it’s silly but I felt humiliated being on display for so many people.

My mama lost her life to colon cancer because she was afraid to get a colonoscopy after having been touched inappropriately by a doctor in her 30s. She never told anyone. Thank you for making this post. I hope another mama sees it and her children don’t have to watch her suffer the way we did.

Where I had mine, a female chaperone was introduced in the procedure room even though I had not asked for one. That should be the norm.

As i was getting prepped for mine the male doctor walked in and I unexpectedly broke into a sobbing panic attacked, and admitted previous SA. He immediately, calmly called a couple of women nurses and asked if I would feel comfortable continuing if one sat by my side for the entire procedure and the other worked with him. He also told me he could seek out a child scope so I would feel as little as possible. i wasn't expecting such a positive experience, i hope this becomes more of the norm.
