@cgledhill: We don’t know exactly what this stone is, we just know it is very important and has always been here. This is the #London stone, an ancient sacred rock that sits at the heart of London. #History #historytok #londonhistory #londontiktok
I’d love for Egypt to steal the London stone and place it on display in its new museum.

Amazing history. They have found swords in the Thames thrown in as offerings to the deighities of the Iron Age people I have read. That would definitely predate Roman londinium

wasnt it behind some metal bars not too long ago? I like that they've replaced it with glass if that was the case, I imagine a lot of people touched it and wore it down

In my lifetime it has had so many homes. I like the current one. It used to just be surrounded by dirty iron railings. It is in fact the last remnant of a column that stood outside the Roman governor’s house near Cannon Street, from which it is speculated all distances were measured on roman roads around Britain.

That’s actually lovely….. it’s a good way to find ‘your people’…… those who think it’s beautiful & moving & it stirs their heart and imagination are one type of person…..And those who couldn’t care less about a rock are another type of person….. Those who adore rocks 🪨 & stars ⭐️and those who adore rockstars 🎸👩🏻🎤. I’m 🪨 & ⭐️to the 🦴

The London Stone is the point to which all Mile Stones are measured, if memory serves me correctly. It was placed there by the Roman founders.
