I loved my kotatsu. Automatically would get sleepy while studying at it.

After learning that they don’t heat the home but individually just the space they are in yeah it makes sense. I have been looking at some of these homes but I really do think I would install a central heater, I was not a fan of th cold when I lived in UTAH so I would have to do something. I can’t have the inside feeling like the outside. But as I understand they don’t generally have central heat or Air Conditioning it makes me think it could be an insalation problem. And from what I have seen about the design of the older homes that may be a challenge and would require some engineering to make a central system work. So I’m at a bit of a loss of what would one do. But thankfully the homes are cheep by comparison to here in California so you could probably put that money into solving a problem like that.

Why are so many old houses in Japan so bad? You make the best cars in the world but can not insulate a house!?😂😆

We Iranians have something very similar called “Korsy" ["کرسی" in Farsi]
There are many similarities between Japanese and Persian culture, and I love that 😍

We brought our kotatsu back with us from Japan and used it for almost 20 years and when we decided to replace it our son took it and still uses it today.

Pardon my ignorance but wouldn’t a heated table with a blanket draped over it be a fire hazard?

Mi grandparents had something like that in Spain. A light under the table to keep you warm around the table. Loved it growing up
