I am actually studying child sexuality rn and this is actually a normal thing for kids, so don't listen to people who say it's not normal! Usually you would lead the child to do this privately, but that can be hard with neurodiverse or young children. I hope that you can find distractions that work! I also definitely think that if this kinda behaviour is very exessive, a doctor should not be dismissive of the issue!

My son uses a yoga ball. He’s 6 and quite private about it. He will tell me he wants to hump, then toddles off to the bedroom and hump the yoga ball on the bed. I’m not allowed in the room. I let him get on with it, just like I do with his normal stimming x

My son does this. He’s 4 and a twin and I do suspect asd/adhd. I try to distract him but it barely works😭

Good Morning Carla, i saw your post regarding romeos having a disables badge due to his autism. My child has autism and has poor danger awareness and learning difficulty. He only got lower rate for mobility. My kid bolts. Runs off and have lots of behavjoural issues. And for his safety im appealing the DLA. As he needs a disabled badge for his safety. As a sen mommy to another sen mommy. Have you got any tips for me for the DLA form? Im finding it alot especially with the EHCP process and my childs autism. my child does the g stimming too!

A few years ago I watched ‘there she goes’ on bbc and it highlighted this so when my daughter started it I knew what it was luckily. It’s a hard watch but the reality for so many of us 🥰

My son does this! I’ve not came across anyone talking about this! He does it to regulate himself and does it so much he’s red in the face. I’ve tried loads of distractions and it doesn’t work. I let him continue to do it

I worked at a special needs school and we would have « pamper sessions » basically using sensory stimulating objects everywhere else on the body. So a head massager. A soft brush etc. Just basically demonstrating all the ways you can make yourself feel good that are appropriate

We didn’t know what this was with my son took videos and it looked like a seizure shown gp and got referred to Epilepsy clinic and then I got that phone call off specialist and he said no it’s not a seizure or epilepsy it’s self gratification and then asked if he needed to explain 🫣😬 I was like nope I’m good got it

So I work in ASD education and rather than a distraction technique I suggest you give them a safe space to do it…a dark tent with sensory toys and cushions where it can be comfortable but in a safe space

Are they old enough for a social story? A short social story about it being ok to do but it needs to be done in private might help?

My girl is 4 and she does a stim where she holds the inside of her thigh and grinds her legs, it's actually horrible to see she ends up sweating bad and its only when there's a negative emotion she does it.Got to to ignore her, to stop her, tell her off, distract her, take her to her room to do it she's done it since 7 months old started in the highchair. x
