I’ve honestly had very few positive experiences with Chinese people in my own life, and those experiences have shaped my perception. On Chinese social media, I’ve repeatedly come across racist comments and trends that I found deeply offensive, such as the “black baby squishy” trend. I’ve also noticed a lot of colorism, where people with darker skin tones are mocked or looked down upon. In gaming communities, I’ve seen some Chinese fan groups become extremely toxic. For example, during controversies surrounding Love and Deepspace, I saw racist, misogynistic, and hostile comments directed at LGBTQ+ people and women outside China. The level of toxicity and childish behavior was shocking to me. My experience working in customer service also reinforced these feelings. I encountered several Chinese customers who treated me with very little respect. Some screamed at me and called me names simply because I refused to heat food packaging that wasn’t safe to put in the microwave. I was only following company policy, yet I was treated as if I didn’t deserve basic respect. I’ve also personally encountered groups of Chinese tourists being very loud in places where people are generally expected to be quiet. It often felt as though they ignored social norms and showed little consideration for the people around them. I understand that these experiences don’t represent every Chinese person, and I’m sure there are many kind and respectful individuals. However, based on my own experiences it was quiet horrible

last yr in sapporo: at the seafood market a group of old chinese tourists were chatting and blocking the sidewalk. so no one could move anywhere for like 20 seconds. another time we were getting on a train that was abt to leave and they were not moving through the aisle and were just standing there blocking us from entering, and the station conductor had to shove us in so the train could leave.
