@cascadiaclassic: His legend lives on 🫡 #dabears #porsche #carsoftiktokcontest Walter Payton had a strong affinity for cars, which extended into his post-football career. He was an avid auto enthusiast and maintained a collection of investment-grade cars, including his favorite, a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo, which he treasured. After retiring from the NFL in 1987, Payton transitioned into professional auto racing. He began his career in 1989 and competed in the SCCA Sports 2000 series and later, the professional SCCA Trans-Am Series, driving a Budweiser Ford Mustang, among other cars. He achieved some success, winning the SCCA GT-1 championship in 1990. Following a racing accident in 1993, he stepped away from driving and became involved in team ownership. He co-owned the Payton-Coyne Racing IndyCar team, making him one of the few African-American owners of a top-level motorsports team at the time.

My uncle had some beers with Walter at his bar “The Round House” in Aurora Illinois back in the day. He was all of our hero and he didn’t disappoint. Super friendly and just a normal guy. Rip Sweetness
