When I was in college, during the summer, I rented a room in a Christian fraternity house, and I was talking with a guy who was in the army, and he talked about how when he was on deployment in the Middle East, his team used to hand out literature, like pamphlets or zines talking about essentially America = good, their current regime = bad. And I said, nonjudgmentally, dispassionately, “OK, so you were handing out propaganda,” to which he tightened up a bit and was like “well, we called it product.” so that means there are definitely US soldiers and marines ordered to walk the streets abroad acting like a street team for this great new indie rock band called America or something.
