With due respect, if compulsory recruitment is being considered because youths are “not willing,” then fairness demands that such patriotism should begin from the top. Let the children of our political leaders, security chiefs, NSA heads, ministers, judges, governors, and even those aspiring for 2027 elections be the first to proudly enlist and lead the charge. If national security is truly everyone’s responsibility, then it should not fall only on ordinary citizens. Traditional rulers in affected regions must also be held accountable, and controversial actors like Gumi should face appropriate investigation. Before anyone talks about going to the streets to “pick youths,” let every leader show example through their own children. Anyone unwilling to do so has no moral right to ask struggling Nigerians to make the sacrifice. Leadership starts with leading from the front.
