Diving the Great Barrier Reef, something I have always dreamt of doing, so last week I made it happen and it was unbelievable Over 16 day/night dives I encountered turtles, eels, multiple shark species, anemone fish, dense coral gardens and my most memorable experience was watching the coral spawning on the night dives. Coral spawning is an annual natural phenomenon that occurs only after the full moon in either October or November. Lasting for approximately 20 minutes and only at night, corals release their egg and sperm bundles into the water column. Each bundle must encounter another bundle from the same species in order to become fertilised. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a coral releasing a couple of bundles, so I got the attention of my dive buddies and then thousands of coral bundles were released. We sat for 10 minutes and watched the entire process, a once in a life time experience that I’ll never forget 🪸🐠🦈🤿🐟🦀 #greatbarrierreef #gbrmarinepark #coralspawning #scubadiving #scuba #diving #australia #queensland #tropicalnorthqueensland
