In 2005 I was vehemently corrected at my first PTA meeting at the original Des Moines Elementary School, where I learned that you're WRONG if you don't pronounce it WITH the S LOL Lived here ever since

Born and raised, pretty sure I say the s and agree a lot of time say dez moinz- affectionately and intentionally and I don’t know why
