My little rental is part of my retirement so I can live- who are they to charge me $125 per year . My rentals $500 to $600 below market rate and that’s my business. These people break our bill of rights. I’m not a slum lord

This law is the reason we sold our rentals and exited the market. Both local towns I owned rental properties in mandated annual registration and inspections that added nearly $1000 to rental units built before 1976. There’s no way we could pass those expenses on to tenants. So we made the decision to sell the properties. That took two single family rental homes off the rental market. Another feel good measure that taxed landlords and had the effect of reducing available rental units. And according to our accountant, we weren’t alone in selling and exiting the rental market. The law penalized mom & pop landlords

I think it’s fine. I’m a good landlord but there are bad ones out there, transparency isn’t a bad thing. $125 for a CO and inspections to make sure properties are up to code.

I’m still fuzzy on how this will be enforced though. Like if I’m renting now, I’m not obligated to do all this nonsense unless “a tip” has been sent to the city/town so they “inspect” my property. This will make landlords reduce the rent so tenants can b silent?!

In a way yes I agree with her because a lot of the landlords they were renting inhabitable properties charging a fortune for absolutely nothing and demanding people to return the house in good condition as if when they moved in the house was in good condition conditions
