[JAMIE CHRISTOPHERSON: METAL GEAR RISING REVENGANCE VOCAL TRACKS] I LOOOOVED this so much a long while back, but as my tastes have expanded I've gotta say this album has definitely.. become less of a masterclass as I thought it was I'm likely still glazing it somewhat because Metal Gear Rising was my favourite game for almost a third of a year, and for some days I'd just spend my entire evening just replaying through the same levels overr and over again cause I liked the gameplay that much. Now, about the music! I need to shut up. Besides a very few select boss tracks (tracks 5, 11, 1, 2 and maybe 7) it does just feel a bit like standard alternative metal with a tiny bit of influence from electronic music. That's how I see a lot of this album, if I'm completely honest. Pretty bland, lack-luster 'let's make some soundtrack that sounds like metal and call it day' kinda album. Thankfully though, there are moments of unique, well-made and well-integrated influences from unique genres however. The large switch-up into the chorus heard inside Rules of Nature is something the rest of the soundtrack can't replicate. It just had a very certain kind of delicate touch to it that really adds a lot to the ingame actions of hunking a massive ass metal gear into the air Also for another example, is the unique neoclassical melodies hears in The Stains of Time. Monsoon is arguably the game's most uniqur battle with his use if gravitational abilities and the reveal of raiden's other personality, and of course this is the only track in the soundtrack that has unique musical characteristics; like previously mentioned, the neoclassical touches in the guitar melody and a lot of the melody actually being cut out through almost dubstep-like melodies. I could probably write a lot more about how mistral and armstrongs theme reflect raiden's synergies with their respective bosses, and how I don't really like jetstream sam's theme too much because it doesn't really mean anything in the lyricism and the more brazilian-akin passages don't sound that great outside of the game, but I've gotta wrap yp this long ass regiew and say this is still a pretty good album in itself but the fact the boss tracks are the only thing bringing this up so much makes it just a little less likable on my relisten #albumreview #metalgearrising #metal #gamesoundtrack #larp
