I can’t tell if he is in the wrong or the right, but maybe your community isn’t for him? Tbh i am one of those people who doesn’t just blend in any community or friendship, it has to be a community that i share the same values with or a friend with the same hobbies and interests. Some people are trying but they don’t just accept any thing just for the sake of “friendship” or “community”

It seems like he’s reluctant to put in effort into social relationships while living here because as you said you have to inconvenience yourself at times to make those relationships. It can be uncomfortable for a lot of people. But so is moving half way across the world for work! I understand your friend, though. He’s experiencing burn out. Focus on your friends and your growth and he’ll figure it out on his own.

ive been thinking a lot and i think moving to japan is only gor certain people who have had a certain lifestyle. It keeps coming on my fyp of how people are sick of japan being glazed and it's not that great but from my perspective, a person who has lived in a 3rd world country as well as not having friends all my life it seems like a very good fit! To each their own really

I tried to be nice to everyone, I was always there for everyone almost 9 years now, this is the first year I ignored everyone and I don’t feel bad because no one was there for me this year, so from now on I will continue to be this way unless we actually create content together that’s all I’m interested in, I don’t care about being friends with people who just want to talk about nothing

I don’t think he’s in the wrong maybe he didn’t like those type of parties or events. Also just because he gets along with you doesn’t mean he’s going to get along with your friends plus he could be going through mental health issues.

So many foreigners like that in Korea too. Constantly complaining they have no friends but saying no to every invite and then not being one to invite anyone to anything or any where either. At some point you just got to understand you can't help everyone.

Yeah the type of people that move to Japan are the type that often suck at making friends? I make Japanese friends when I go on vacation there every time I go because it’s not hard for me to make friends, I even had a Japanese friend who ended up moving to Canada come live with me for awhile - left out of this ‘it’s hard to make friends in Japan’ argument is how foreigners who wanna move there tend to be kind lots of the same type 💀
