Building on #3, I had a public speaking class in college. The professor would mark down your grade for each “filler” word you used (um,uh, like, etc.) but what he would do is he would have a clicker pen and he would use that sound to signify that we used a filler word. By the end of the semester, you got docked 5% for each use of a filler word in a 15 minute final presentation. I have never been so proud of a 95%

I don't think filler words are inherently problematic but they could be a symptom of not having a coherent through line of what you're trying to say, or affirm enough grasp of the point you're trying to get across. so rather than trying to eliminate them view them as a signal it refine your thoughts
