here from fishkeeping community, dont use gravel as your substrate. use 1in dirt and then 2in sand and if you want to decorate with gravel on top of the sand thats fine. then dont ever clean it, the fish waste will feed live plants.

I haven’t had to vacuum my tank in about 10 years. All you need to do is have lots of plants.

I have sand but a ton of plants. I have never cleaned my tank once. The fish and shrimp have babies and are happy. The snails clean the glass and the population stays reasonable. All I do is add water when needed and feed them.

Just puts some plants inside. I have not cleaned the bottom in almost a year and its still just as clean and within proper water range. And I have 11 butterfly Koi.

This is a completely unecesarry device. The thing that cleans the water is removing water, and replacing it with clean water. All this is doing is removing things that are generally beneficial to the good bacterial colonies in the tank.

I’m so confused about cleaning tanks. Just put real plants and shrimp and snails and they’ll do it all for you. In the wild they don’t have tank cleaners.

the poop just becomes nutrients for plants i check my parameters I barley do any water changes and my parameters are perfect no chemicals or cleaning the bottom at all

This is not right do hard research the gravel breaks down and mineralize everything and add it to the soil that it's creating yes new sand as opposed to gravel, but even then it's a living thing don't destroy it
