i love the impact david beckham made in american soccer. even after retirement hes still impacting it. he really got the greatest player of all time to play for the mls. messi coming to the league has brought many more eyes onto the league. when soccer is huge in america we should always acknowledge and give credit to david backham as one of the individuals that pave the way for the sport to become what it is in america.

Absolutely! I grew up in England. We live in CA now. My son is U12 and signed this season to play U13 MLS Next Homegrown - he dreams of it being pathway to Pro football (soccer). Glad MLS has evolved.

It was Coach Octavio Zambrano when he coached NY/NJ Metrostars in the year 2000 that created the first Reserve team, 2002 the first academy in MLS history.

What’s the point of having academies if the ones playing are players from Europe or South America? Have a rule that requires teams to play a certain number of local players each season

Yes, the academies are incredibly important for the growth of American soccer. The bigger question is how do we make it free . in Europe Academy soccer is free. You still have to pay to play in the US. Which leaves a ton of incredibly talented players left out in the cold.
