I hate floating to the floor because medsurg makes me feel like I truly am being used. Like I am thought of as a brainless cog in the machine by the hospital.. they give you so many patients that you can’t get to know them enough to recognize subtle clinical changes until it’s already advanced which makes you feel like you failed, you can’t look at everybody’s labs and act on them, the doctors don’t answer your secure chats or give you the time of day, you can’t put in verbal orders on the fly by talking to a doc in the hallway, it just feels like I am literally there to pass meds. That’s not fair when these medsurg nurses have the knowledge to help monitor and treat these patients if they were given the time and resources.. Uhg.

Lol had our sister ICU float someone (we’re PCU) and she was so confused on what she would do with her time since “techs did everything on our floor”. We’re a stroke/seizure/surgery floor. 🤣

I’ve always said MS nurses are the hardest working nurses. My hospital doesn’t float icu unless it’s to another ICU and I’m so grateful 😭
