My son had surgery: $0, cast: $0, crutches: $0, spent the night in the hospital: $0, at least 6 x-rays with dr visits: $0, 8 physiotherapy sessions: $0 😏

Canadian here - broke my ankle and they did not have a surgery spot for me and sent me home with a temp cast for 13 days on a wait list. I waited every day fasting and in pain for a phone call. These 13 additional days costed me pain, family’s well being, care taking plus missed wages. Health care is not free here. My lost wages alone are over 8k - yes i do make a lot and pay a lot of tax so no shame there but Canadians deserve better care. It is not really free

I broke my leg in Canada. Had to get three cast changes. It was $150 to $180 each change. I paid that upfront. And then my benefits covered it. $800 per cast is insane

That's over $3200 Canadian including your follow-up and you think that's reasonable? My kid spent a week in the hospital and it cost me like $80 in parking. That would be like $50,000+ down there

When I taught internationally, I met so many Canadian teachers who specifically took teaching jobs abroad so they could get treatment or surgeries they either couldn’t get or were on a multi-year waiting list to get!

You will get multiple bills, the ones issued at the hospital are really only for the room rental and the receptionist, then you’ll get another from the hospital for more services, and then another for the doctor from another company

This confirms what I think about Canadian health care. I’d rather have it than American any day. Imagine your child needed treatment for something? Or someone in your family had open heart surgery? Imagine that bill?!? Rather pay for it in my taxes and know that EVERYONE is taken care of not just me and my family that can afford to fix a broken arm. 2000 dollars would cripple someone making minimum wage.

The US is the only developed country that doesn’t have universal healthcare. Upper middle class and higher don’t mind it at all because they can afford to pay their hospital bills. But upper middle class and higher only think of themselves, shocker. It’s actually gross, give your head a shake.

First, you can’t say “the Canadians”. You’re a Canadian living in the US. Second, it’s still cost nothing in Canada as where you had to pay. Canada for the win.

My oldest son was in the hospital for 4 months. It cost $2000. He has meds and doctors appointments now. They are $0. My youngest son tore a tendon and his ER visit was $0. He went to an orthopedic doctor the next week it was $0. He goes to PT now 3 times a week and it is $0.

$800 for 2 casts for 20$ worth of plaster. 1200$ for a simple X-ray in the ER. You’re still paying insurance premiums on top of that. Then another 350$ for X-rays. So almost 2500$ for simple uncomplicated fractures in a child. And you think that’s good? 😂

Canadian here... I had a hernia develop in July of 2024. Went to the doc, got an ultrasound, hernia confirmed. Doc says definitely needs a surgical repair. Got a letter a week later, telling me my "pre-surgical consultation" appointment is booked for may 27, 2027. That's not the surgery, just the appointment to talk about the surgery. Canadian healthcare isn't all it's cracked up to be.

That’s not bad at all, at least you know you’re getting good care, and not being misled or ignored, which is the case in Canada sometimes. And we’re paying high taxes all year long for sub par healthcare.

I’ve had multiple kids with multiple broken bones (they play sports). I also broke my wrist and back. Paid nothing but parking out of pocket and had immediate care all times. Was rushed in for a cat scan (Inder on arrival) when I broke my back and 6 weeks later when I had other symptoms - MRI within a day. Idk. I like our system in Canada - it’s not perfect but I know I’ll never have huge surprise bills

Approx $2000 for a very basic procedure - Average family (two adults, two children) pay ~$17,713 annually of their tax towards ALL healthcare. If you paid $2000 for a basic procedure that’s what $24K a year - lot more than CDNs pay and we get life saving coverage with what we pay. Still better in Canada.

Emerg visit in new orleans is 1500, before insurance. Ive been in the emergency room a couple times now for me and my baby and its the best health care ive ever experienced lol. All the hospital visits emergency or not has been amazing. You can *usually* get a discount by paying all in one payment. i put my stuff on payment plans, very reasonable. Worth it imo coming from Canada
