I am your total opposite 🤣 I could happily never work again

I think the distinction for me is that I don’t dream of employment or earning, but I dream of “occupations” by the holistic definition occupational therapists use. If I won the lottery I would buy a horse farm and raise horses. I would buy an industrial knitting machine and learn to use it to make eccentric clothing. I would learn every single craft or art form I’ve ever wanted to learn - and I’d pay experienced artists a livable wage to help me learn. I’d buy art and make it accessible to the public…so maybe that would mean running a gallery. I’d sit on charity boards and find ways to use my good fortune to pay it forward. It would mean “work” in theory; but it would absolutely not be employment or in service or making money

So, like, hobbies exist and when people say "I don't dream of labour" they mean doing their hobbies instead of doing something they hate for survival, not lying around doing nothing all day

most people would do something constructive with their time if they didn't have to generate profit for someone else. it's the alienation that really kills the whole vibe

I get this but like working on things for pleasure or even just becoming a scholar and simply dedicating yourself to learn new things or volunteering for others is different to working away for a company or like any sort of setting in which you basically trade you time and life for money which most likely is not enough to live comfortably and still have time for other things that's the sort of labor everyone would just do about anything to avoid, essentially capitalism

my job is not a dream job but it gives me good money. if I won the lotto, I'm not gonna have a job. I go home in pain from my job every single day. I'll be a hobbiest and be able to do the things I enjoy doing them. because the worst feeling is when you get home after work and physically cannot do the things you enjoy because your job leaves you in so much pain.

I don't want a job, I want a purpose, I wanna feel like I'm making a contribution, making a difference, improving something in some way

Oh yeah I go insane if I don’t have the structure and routine that comes with working in some way. I’m either doing everything or nothing

This is the same as my mom’s POV. finally accepting in my 40s that I do myself NOT dream of labor made me so much more peaceful

I agree with you on the lottery thing - I say that all the time. My husband thinks I'm crazy but I think you'd have to do something to prevent going insane.

I love labour when I can see that I am making a difference in my community and am being paid enough to reach self actualization.
