@sewingnapoleon: Victorian society outing to history Colorado! This is an 1880s bustle dress worn by an early suffragette! In fact, she was also one of Colorado’s first female legislators. This bustle dress has princess seams, a high collar, and extravagant decoration. It’s made with details reminiscent of men’s tailoring, to bring attention to a woman in a traditionally male role- as a legislator. We especially love the exaggerated cuffs. Shown in this video is the dramatic ruched back detail. I love visiting museums to learn more about historic clothing for my line of Victorian-inspired corsets. Follow for more! History Colorado is an institution that values stakeholder engagement. Because of their programming, the Victorian society of Colorado (@thevictorianromanian) and I were able to visit the museum and study these pieces. We all want to remake this dress now! Thank you to the team at History Colorado for giving us this opportunity, especially the associated curator of clothing and textiles, who recognized community interest in the collection and arranged for use to visit. We love the museum! #1880s #bustledress #dressreveal #antiquedress
