@chickenschmidtfarms: Replying to @Pie4Pie Cornish Cross are bred to grow incredibly fast. Their bodies are not designed for a long life. Keeping them alive as ‘pets’ isn’t rescue — it’s prolonged suffering. Many can’t walk long-term. Their hearts fail. Their organs give out. Their joints collapse. That’s not kindness. That’s cruelty dressed up as moral superiority. #rescue #meatchickens #batteryhens #homestead #farmchores
Like many people, she’s anthropomorphizing the animals.

Do you make the first cross (from both parent breeds) or are Cornish cross a breed in their own right in the U.S.?

I'm worried some people on here "rescue" these animals by buying them, which not only means they're raising an animal that will have a poor quality of life but also contribute to the sales and demand anyway :/ Not a helpful move

Keeping them alive would literally torture them. I wish people would do some basic research before putting in their opinion. Plus these birds got a better quality of life than the grocery store meat birds

unfortunately, many people that claim to be animal lovers project their feelings onto the animals when caring for them instead of taking care of the animal with their biology in mind. I have loved watching your journey raising the meat birds. they looked to live such a great life while you had them and I'm sure that care transcended into the way you processed them. thank you for taking care of all of your various animals according to their biological needs.❤

I appreciate your videos and thank you for the info. Question: why do some of the Cornish cross chickens have less feathers in areas compared to other types of chickens?

Yes, you don't have to explain yourself. If they don't like what you are doing with your chickens, watch something else. My grand parents had a farm and we lived off the animals they raised on the farm.

You’re a great owner for that and I think what you do is incredibly respectful! As a aspiring to be vet and an animal lover personally I could NEVER kill an animal myself and that is why I myself wouldn’t ever own CC chickens, but the way you do it is very respectable. Kudos.

Are there chicken meat breeds (not the cornish cross, obviously) that can live past processing age without their body starting to fail on them faster than it would with egg laying breeds? Just curious

You can see as they got closer to processing day they walked different and seemed a bit top heavy compared to the egg chickens. Thanks for sharing how you raise your meat birds!

we need to reconnect with our food. this is quite literally the best thing we can do for the animals because at the end of the day, humans eat meat. giving them a good life is the kindest thing we can do! i agree w u wholeheartedly, and im a lifelong vegetarian 😂

You're giving them a fantastic life and one quick moment of stress. That's truly the kindest, most compassionate thing you could do for livestock.

My broad breasted turkeys were the sweetest birds I’ve ever had but like Cornish crosses, they are bred to grow fast and be food. 2 of the 3 were starting to have some troubles walking prior to processing day yesterday. It would have been cruel to force them to live longer. I’ll miss them and I definitely shed some tears as it was our first time raising turkeys and I had no idea how sweet they were and how attached I would get but they had a good life and are fulfilling their purpose.

I don’t mind chicken raised in chicken heaven. Why do you choose Cornish chickens, though? I kinda think the whole breed is a bit of a bad job in terms of letting it live a pretty decent life, just physically—a lot like those pushed-face dogs, where just living is a challenge because of all the downsides.

I got into chickens and really educated myself on the cost an breeds. I made sure I got dual purpose chickens for not only eggs but also meat in the long run. instead of them just going to nature at the end of their life they in return feed me an my family. its called the circle of life.

You are quite correct. We raise them the same way. They are not for pets nor egg layers.
