I was more alarmed that he said he doesn’t let his family eat it. That was enough for me.

People really love the "chemicals in our food making us sick" conspiracy, they're willing to ignore that no CEO knows how their company actually works. In so many industries there's news articles about CEOs making baffling decisions because they don't know their own product, why would this be different?

I work in the bio 3D printing space, the bio printing material costs THOUSANDS for like a 500ml vial, you’re not using that for 3.99/lb chicken

do people seriously think mass producing lab grown meat could be more cost effective than the atrocious meat industry we have right now? it produces so much meat so inhumanely im sure god wakes up and weeps but for some reason people wanna believe they’re putting lab grown experiment meat in hundreds of thousands of cans of soup for… fun? to mess with us? lol. thats not profitable.

Am I the only one that like genuinely wouldn’t care about bio engineered meat. It elicits the same reaction as people trying to tell you what’s in hot dogs.

I read that book when I was a teenager for gross-out food stories and got a tragic story about the plight of immigrant workers in Chicago

They keep calling him the Vice President of Campbells. He’s a VP in their internal IT department. He doesn’t know anything about food.

The Jungle is my roman empire, i read it in hs and was like "wow what a devistating story of an immigrant family all dying bc capitalism is evil!" and then found out its known as the "ew theres people in the meat!" book😬 like they were so mad they made the FDA?? and im like. why are we worried about if there's human in the meat and not worried that SOMEONE FELL IN AND DIED ON THE LINE HELLO?!?! anyway a kid gets eaten by rats bc he gets locked in the factory on accident in that book. and people looked RIGHT past that to be grossed out about the meat.

I WISH bioengineering meat was so wide spread that Campbells could use it to cut costs. We’d stop most of the environmental destruction going on

Ok while it might not be *bioengineered* meat… if he refuses to eat it… what IS in it? Probably the scraps hard pressed into cubes to resemble something edible. So, either way I’m good, and yes it’s all of the issues combined.

Noone is surprised that employee treatment is poor in the USA though. Its basically a national trope that companies in the USA are awful to work for. A bad company to work for in the UK is the standard in the USA.

the way upton sinclair is taught in school is a big part of this. teachers already have a misinterpreted viewpoint and pass this down to their students who to see news articles through and individualistic food safety lens without a single regard for the larger workforce responsible for feeding them

Food process engineer. I’ve actually worked at Campbell’s in NC and in Toronto. Most plants are in rural agricultural areas. They want the lower costs and take advantage of a captive poor work force.
