His qualified immunity is now waived - Qualified immunity- people believe that cops can do anything they want? What citizens should be doing is educating themselves or grass rooting to make sure cops are aware through training in the job to stop the mass amounts of our tax dollars being paid out for these lawsuits because of violating rights in place since the signing of the constitution when was that? Consequences and Reforms
Violations without immunity lead to personal liability for damages, punitive awards, and attorney fees. Critics argue it enables misconduct by requiring near-identical precedents, shielding “plainly incompetent” officers. Reform efforts include the Ending Qualified Immunity Act (proposed 2020, reintroduced) and state laws ending it for certain violations. The Supreme Court has upheld it as essential for effective policing (Pierson v. Ray, 1967).
