The different of belacan from Melaka, Malaysia & Tanjung Dawai, Perlis, Malaysia. Melaka one a bit salty and dry type. Darker in colour. Perlis one slightly pinkish and moist. More 'lemak' than salty . As a Malaysian I like Perlis one more.

Arghhhh I remember going to Melaka and suddenly smelt this gorgeous belacan in big bottles but I didn’t have checked in luggage so I couldn’t buy it😭 Malaysian belacan and Indonesian terasi do have different flavours imo
