@taymunholland: 25th procedure under anesthesia in 10 days ❤️‍🩹 These last 11 years have held so many ups and downs. For most of my life, I’ve been fighting chronic diseases. As a child, I never understood why I was sicker than everyone else my age. I never received the perfect attendance award; some years I missed over a month of school. I struggled with nausea, stomach & bladder pain, infections, & fatigue. A lot of the time I pushed through at school or dance, never wanting to let anyone down. School often made me feel as if they thought I was making up my symptoms to get out of class, or that I was sensitive & wanted to be home with my mom. Some even made accusations that my behavior was due to being sexually abused — which was not the case. Dance we were told “You never stop dancing no matter what” — even when you’re coughing up blood, vomiting, fractured a tailbone; oh no we had competitions to win. The truth was that I had multiple chronic diseases that weren’t diagnosed too late in life. Many could have been managed earlier if my doctors had referred me to specialists instead of putting me on antibiotics every month. In high school, I was even prescribed a “good Christian boyfriend,” as the doctor believed my declining health was due to no longer identifying as Christian & instead being spiritually inspired by the philosophies of Tibetan Buddhism. Yes, I really did receive a doctor’s note for that. I was also told I couldn’t have certain diseases because I was “far too young.” By the time my bladder was first scoped, it was described as looking like a bloody piece of meatloaf. My bladder lining was so damaged by Interstitial Cystitis that I had Hunner lesions: reddened, inflammatory patches with blood vessels radiating & oozing + massive scar tissue. I now undergo a procedure every 6–12 months to expand the elasticity of my bladder, remove any lesions, & manage the disease. I’ve also been diagnosed with a long list of other chronic diseases that were misdiagnosed or ignored throughout my childhood. My parents never stopped advocating & searching for answers. Being sick should never be anyone’s “normal.” Never give up on you dreams fam 🐦‍🔥 #chronicillness #surgery #nevergiveup #fyp #interstitialcystisis
