Also, if people really cared about the safety of women athletes, they would do something about the hundreds of abusive male coaches.

We all remember that Algerian boxer. All it takes is one person to make a bad faith accusation

This has to be *the* most well articulated and well thought-out stance on the topic.
You've portrayed a level of thinking and communication that most people will never achieve.

Sports are, by definition, unfair. For some reason it’s fine if an athlete has insanely strong muscles, or massively long legs, but the minute some hormonal abnormalities come into play, we scream for fairness. Your explanation here is a fresh and much needed take. Thank you.

People who make the male puberty argument are just ignorant of the affects of gender affirming care on the body. They are assuming that men just slap on a dress and immediately start competing against women. This has never been the case.

I mean, is it fair that Michael Phelps has Marfans syndrome? His lung capacity is larger than anyone else’s competing and his limbs and strokes will always be stronger and more advantageous. It’s not “fair” to everyone else he has a genetic and medical advantage.

We are already seeing this with bathrooms in places where there aren’t actually bans in place. Women are being harassed when they don’t appear “feminine” enough to some outside observer.

This is so eloquently laid out. I wish I had this composure when discussing topics like this. I also want to mention- no one discussing trans men in sports. The focus is on women. The focus is ALWAYS on women. It’s very telling.

Don’t forget how these accusations were used to hurt predominantly black/African athletes, like Serena Williams, runners like Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba, Margaret Wambui, Christine Mboma, Beatrice Masilingi…

I love how so many are concerned about female athletes who couldn’t care less about women’s sports.

I wrote a piece on this on my SubStack. We are talking low participation numbers. Those that do play, know that they are constantly being judged just for being trans regardless of their athletic outcome. Truth is, there is no advantage, and the science supports that. Wealth is the biggest factor in inequality in sports. I will happily debate this with anyone.

Trans women have been participating in women’s pro sports 50+ years without incident until some politicians realized they could use them for political gain. Let’s use the energy to find a way for everyone to participate safely and inclusively.

Not to mention that 2 years on HRT erases all physical advantages. Not to mention if we are talking fairness in sports we would need to make it fair across the board. Here’s an example: Is it fair that wealthy families can afford to hire private coaches off season while others can’t? Isn’t that an unfair advantage?

also, frankly, sports are inherently unfair! We arent parceling it out that only 6’5+ basketball players can play together bc it would be disadvantageous to shorter players. There’s men in the NHL who weigh 257lbs and are 6’6 and are hitting players who are 5’9 and 175lbs. Thats unfair! And thats kind of the point!
