Well, I can bet you that the folks who live in Northern California would want to have their own state which I believe they want to call Jefferson since there’s no connection between the rural communities and the liberal population centers of that state

they would lose a lot of those square miles of land. All of the national parks would be retained by the US, as would the US military bases. That's all federal property. The billion dollar companies would leave because, left on its own, California would have to increase the taxes that are already the highest in the nation to maintain itself. And, since it would lose the National Forest Service, the first wildfire to encroach in federal land could be considered an act of war on the United States. Not to mention that the military personnel that it boasts now are US military members, they would be left with only untrained militias to defend itself. California would first have to splinter into separate states, then those who wished to secede could. Much of the agricultural areas after splintering, would become red states who refused to leave the nation, so its GDP would plummet. But, go ahead. Let's see how this plays out.
