Nope, not your mistake. Trainer needs to reach out to tell you who gets braided EVERY NIGHT. That’s literally their job. I would’ve said too bad so sad, use your words next time and you’ll get braided.

If the trainer gets to be mad at you for that, they get to be madder at themself for not calling you the moment they got to the barn at 5:30am 🙂‍↕️

I feel like it’s on the trainer to let you know who gets braided on what night not for you to keep track of each class every horse you braid is in.

I’ve thrown really atrocious braids in a mane in 37 minutes because the braider left with a broken wrist. So I was a fill in. Ok enough from 20 feet, nothing to brag about.

As a trainer, that is absolutely not your fault. I give my braider the horses/divisions at the beginning of the week but check in every single day with any changes. It is my responsibility to communicate changes to the braider.

100% not your fault. horse shows and schedule changes happen. When I managed sometimes I got the communications from the braider sometimes I texted her, but like they say it takes a village. Good for you for getting it worked out

At that point just show unbraided. Is it the best thing? Bo but it’s not the end of the world!

What do you do with those little fluffy bits too small to fit in the tail braid?

I can braid, but much prefer to hire for various reasons - ended up braiding my own horse's tail for a class due to schedule running faster! So I panic braided myself lol

Nah in Canada here the trainer messages braider what horses are getting done what nights. Grooms in the AM should have noticed horse wasn’t braided and texted you or the trainer. So I wouldn’t put it on yourself.

when I showed on the arabian circuit (as a junior rider) I did forget to braid my horse. as I was about to trot into the arena I did a quick running braid, while sitting on him. it wasn't the best but wasnt the worst either. it was a terrible feeling of dread when I realized I forgot

And this is why everyone should know how to braid their own damn horse! It’s a horse show, things constantly go wrong, it’s better to have okay-braids than NO braids.

Horse fan question, is it common for late schedule changes?

I have never had a panic braid but I did have a panic clip… we had 3 foals who were supposed to get clipped for the auction, the person who would clip them for us cancelled and said she’ll be there the evening before the auction, at 10pm she called saying she couldn’t come… I ended up clipping 3 foals until 1am at night 🫠

This horse gave you the calm and focus you needed at that very moment to make your hands fly with accuracy.

we DONT absolutely have to have our horses in braids. idk why people think it’s a necessity. but yes it does make the horses look good but still. it’s weird

One time I was doing like a little schooling derby and was braiding my own horse, on the show schedule they had accidentally listed the flat classes as 30 minutes long each … the classes were like 2 hours ahead of what they said fastest I’ve ever braided
