Alban Uzoma Nwapa moved from Nigeria to Sweden in the 1980s to study dentistry. To pay for his university tuition, he started DJing at the prominent Stockholm nightclub Alphabet Street. He quickly built a reputation for mixing reggae, hip-hop, and house while hyping up the crowd over the microphone with his signature live vocal chants. After completing his degree and practicing as a dentist, his reputation as "Dr. Alban" caught the attention of Denniz Pop, a influential DJ and producer who was forming the iconic Cheiron Studios in Stockholm (the birthsite of hits for the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Ace of Base). Following the huge success of Dr. Alban’s 1990 debut Hello Afrika and his 1992 mega-hit It's My Life, Dr. Alban and Denniz Pop went back into the studio to complete the album One Love. Denniz Pop wanted a track that combined Gospel Choir Energy: Heavy, uplifting call-and-response vocals ("Sing Hallelujah!") driving the main hook Peak-Time Eurodance Beats: Fast-paced synth basslines and organ riffs designed specifically for 1990s European dance floors. Hip-House Rapping: Dr. Alban's trademark deep, rhythmic, rhythmic-reggae vocal delivery urging the crowd to leave their worries behind. Released as the third single from One Love in late 1992 (and rolling heavily into 1993), "Sing Hallelujah!" became an instant international smash: Reached the Top 5 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Sweden. Became a defining anthem of the early 90s Eurodance movement alongside tracks by Snap! and Culture Beat. Remained a staple in club rotations, sports stadium playlists, and festival sets for decades. #MusicLovers #Alex -n#Music 👇 Follow for your daily music dose!
