In Bahrain, I was served the version of Karak without saffron. The preparation was the same as yours though. It tasted amazing.

Way too much cardamom, ruined Saffron aroma by boiling it, also this type of tea was brought to uae by Indians and Pakistanis, nothing Emirati about it.

It's called karak chai. karak itself means 'strong' that itself doesn't mean anything unless you add 'chai' after it
