@guide2wdw: 🤯🤖 Future Animatronic Tech Revealed Imagineering just revealed the next generation of Audio-Animatronics, plus three characters they think this tech is ideal for. And honestly… this tech is NOT what I expected. Some context: Just last month, Disney announced EPCOT’s Frozen Ever After is ditching screen faces in favor of new physical animatronic faces. Plus, Animal Kingdom’s new Clawhauser animatronic has physical eyes instead of screens. A lot of fans took this as a sign that projection faces were going extinct. Turns out? They might actually be the face of the future. In the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering, Disney demoed what they’re calling “Next-Generation Audio-Animatronics.” Disney’s new tech uses real-time front projection on a static shell, perfectly tracked using motor encoder data. It dynamically adjusts to ambient light But the real game-changer is what this makes possible: Characters can now cry, bleed, or even transform mid-scene. These are emotional beats Disney has never been able to do with traditional figures. I don’t believe this is the end of physical animatronic faces. It’s just another tool in Imagineering’s arsenal to be able to bring characters to life. And speaking of characters, Disney specifically said this new technology is ideal for three characters that have been challenging to bring to life in the past: • Mike Wazowski • Lightning McQueen • Hades And wouldn’t you know it… all three have massive new lands in development at Disney World: Monstropolis, Piston Peak, and Villains Land.
