I’ve had so many issues with mine but honestly because of my 2003 325xi I am a full mechanic now and can diagnose a lot issues pretty quickly on any e46 😭

Just fixed the head gasket in my car used no parts just blue devil head gasket seal and repair

On these cars the main thing that I’m aware of is the cooling system, check all the hoses for leaks, cracks or if it looks or feels weak just replace it. Also check the water pump and thermostat and make sure they’re working properly. I have a e92 335i and cooling system is the weakest point for my car as well especially with 214k miles
