@iwiangels: Each year on the fourth Thursday in November recognizes the National Day of Mourning. The observance is an opportunity to reflect on Native American heritage and the role Thanksgiving played in the lives of their ancestors. The organizers of this observance consider Thanksgiving Day as a continued reminder of the democide and suffering of Native American people. Since 1970, participants in the National Day of Mourning have honored Native ancestors and their struggles to survive today. Part of the mission behind the event is to educate Americans about the history of Thanksgiving. -national day calendar #nationaldayofmourning #thanksgiving #fyp #foryou #foryourpage Not my usual post but i love being native american and its my acc
I feel like thanksgiving is so weird. Could you imagine if Germany celebrated a holiday that had a direct correlation to the holocaust? ITS WEIRD ISNT IT ??

I felt so betrayed learning the actual history of Thanksgiving. I can't even imagine the grief indigenous folks feel. May you all thrive, and one day live safely among the land your ancestors once cared for🖤

Is there anything I can do to honor you & your ancestors? I have Native American burial mounds close to my property. I’ve left oranges & some tobacco as an offer before. Just want to make sure that’s still the right thing to do

My family doesn’t celebrate thanksgiving but we’re indigenous Mexican so we spend it as almost a second day of the dead but only for our indigenous ancestors

I always use thanksgiving to honor the native Americans and the ones who made it out alive. It just seemed like they deserved the most honor after they went through so much evil. It also helps me remember what my half of my history had to go through south of the border
