US approach to AI (to almost everything) is the pursuit of profit and supremacy. If it means Skynet, if it means an AI powered police state (ask Palantir), then that's what the US elites will do. And that's exactly where they are driving to. With a dispersed AI application, it diverges, and a Super-overarching Artificial Intelligence (AGI) becomes far more difficult.
