I ordered a custom sample on Alibaba, and when I asked if the MOQ could be lowered from 100 to 50, the supplier raised it to 1000. Because of that, I requested the production pattern file — the technical specifications they used to create my sample. Suddenly he claimed he doesn’t know the manufacturer and doesn’t have the file, which is impossible. You cannot produce a custom item without a production pattern. So he’s basically blocking me from producing my own product. I think he knows if I have the file I can work with any manufacturer

This woman is totally correct. You do business in China only with a trusted English speaking agent who you can research and verify. But trade fairs are actually the best way to go. Trying to deal through alibaba in bulk is asking for trouble. So many horrific stories.
